FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Downtown Wilkes-Barre to kick off Small Business Saturday events on Saturday, November 25 with a 10 AM Ribbon Cutting for the Midtown Village Holiday Pop Up Shops, followed by special events at the F.M. Kirby Center and savings from downtown’s small businesses all day long.
WILKES-BARRE: Mayor Tony George will preside at the 10 AM ribbon cutting for Downtown Wilkes-Barre's new Holiday Pop-Up Shops in Midtown Village at 41 South Main Street on Saturday, November 25, 2017. The ribbon cutting kicks off Small Business Saturday in Downtown Wilkes-Barre – a day of events dedicated to supporting our community’s small businesses, and coordinated by the Diamond City Partnership, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association, and the City of Wilkes-Barre.
Twelve different Holiday Pop-Up Shops will give Downtown shoppers a whole new array of retail choices, provided by some of Northeastern PA’s best independent retailers, in Midtown Village on Thursdays from 5 PM to 7 PM, Fridays from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 7 PM through the holiday season. Parking will be validated in Parking Authority facilities with a Pop-Up Shop purchase, and Midtown Village will host a series of special events throughout the Shops' run.
And, when you're in Midtown Village on Small Business Saturday, be sure to visit Downtown's newest small business - the "One Stop Pop Shop" gourmet popcorn and candy shop!
After the ribbon cutting, Saturday's action shifts to the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, whose third annual Holiday Arts Market runs from 10 AM to 5 PM - with a special $3 screening of the classic 1947 holiday film, "Miracle on 34th Street," on the Kirby's big screen at 2 PM. Also at the Kirby Center: a Make-an-Ornament Station, a coloring table, and the Kirby's own Tree Lighting at 1:30 PM, accompanied by local holiday performers and a visit from Santa.
Throughout the day on Small Business Saturday, over fifty small businesses, both in Downtown and throughout Greater Wilkes-Barre, will offer special deals or discounts at their store locations, giving local shoppers incentive to “Shop Small.” Maps of all participating businesses and their deals for the day will be published in local media and on Facebook leading up to the event.
