Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Tournament Proceeds Support the CEO Weinberg Regional Food Bank
Jenkins Twp, PA – December 21, 2017 - The 2017 Golf Tournament Committee presented the Weinberg Food Bank with the proceeds from the Chamber’s 2017 Annual Tournament.
The Food Bank was selected as the charity recipient of this year’s proceeds by the Committee in recognition of their impact for good on the Greater Wilkes-Barre community.
Funds received will support the on-going work of the Food Bank to end hunger in Northeast Pennsylvania. Executive Director, Gene Brady, noted during the check presentation, “With 1 in 5 children in our community at risk for hunger, we have huge task ahead of us; but with the support of so many in our community, like the Chamber, we can move the needle towards our goal and see the effects of healthy food on families in our region.”

The Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank assists community organizations in obtaining food to provide to needy families, in particular children and the elderly, by collecting donations of wholesome food from the food industry and distributing it to these organizations. It works to reduce hunger and promote proper nutrition in addition to preventing food waste. The Food Bank serves a four-county region in Northeast Pennsylvania including Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties.
