A Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols for Advent will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church, Pro-Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem, on Wednesday, December 12, at 6:00 pm. This traditional service will feature hymns and carols sung by all, as well as choral music sung by St. Stephen’s Choir and guest singers from a number of other regional choirs. The Rev’d Timothy Alleman, Priest-in-Charge of St. Stephen’s, will serve as officiant. Music will be led by Canon Mark Laubach and guest conductor Dr. Rick Hoffenberg, Director of Choral Activities at Marywood University in Scranton. The service consists of an alternating sequence of scripture readings and music, featuring choral and organ works by Dietrich Buxtehude, Palestrina, David Willcocks, Malcolm Archer, Andrew Carter, George Guest, Max Reger, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Villiers Stanford, Harold Darke, James MacMillan, and Henri Mulet. A free-will offering will be received to support various music and social outreach ministries at St. Stephen's Church. Gifts of non-perishable food, clothing, and other necessary items will also be received for the Food Pantry and the Clothes Closet at St. Stephen’s. A festive reception will follow the service hosted by the Parish Life Committee. All are welcome!
