Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), will hold an Affordable Care Act (ACA) registration event on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school’s Medical Sciences Building, 525 Pine Street in Scranton. Any community member in the greater Scranton area who desires assistance in securing health insurance for themselves and their families is invited to attend. Students will aid community members with navigating the ACA sign up forms and will assist people on insurance coverage options and purchasing. After Dec. 15, only those who can claim a special "enrollment period life event" will be eligible to sign up for health insurance coverage for 2020. The open enrollment period is also the time to make any changes to existing coverage. The open enrollment period for a 2020 insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace ends Dec. 25. Attendees should bring their Social Security number or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status; employer and income information for everyone in the family; and federal tax information. The event will be at Geisinger Commonwealth’s Medical Sciences Building at 525 Pine Street in Scranton, on the fourth floor. Parking will be available on the street, as well as in school’s parking lots. The event is free and open to the public. Walk-ins are welcome.
